This module focuses on texts relating to a specific historical period. Students develop there understanding of the ways in which

  • scientific
  • religious
  • philosophical
  • or economic paradigms - or ways of thinking

have shaped literature and other examples of texts,

and are reflected in literature and other examples of texts.

Students will also explore the ways values are placed into texts and how texts reflect values.

paradigm definition
n.
1. One that serves as a pattern or model.
2. A set or list of all the inflectional forms of a word or of one of its grammatical categories: the paradigm of an irregular verb.
3. A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

You must study at least TWO print texts relating to a particular historical period, clearly demonstrating the influence of ways of thinking on texts.

This link takes you to a series of worksheets that will help to tie your Postmodern texts together with the requirements of Syllabus (and the Prescriptions document) and to look across the texts you have studied to find their common ground and their differences. Please note: Although texts are listed in the document they can be replaced by those you have studied if your selection is different.
