Advanced and
HSC: Standard
Courses is worth 40%
of your total weightings.
The HSC English Area of Study: Journeys
is the common element (core)
of both the HSC Advanced English and HSC Standard English courses.
You are required to study a
number of texts for the Area of Study:
·
an HSC Area of Study prescribed text from
the Board of Studies prescriptions list
·
and at least two pieces of
material related to your HSC Area of Study: Journeys that you have
chosen.
Your related material needs
to have some connection to the issues raised in your Area of Study: Journeys
and as
they are reflected in your prescribed text and the Area of Study Stimulus Booklet texts.
The
HSC Area of Study:
Journeys is divided into three Focus Areas:
·
physical journey
OR
·
inner journey
OR
·
imaginative journey.
You will study
one of these
focus areas.
Each focus Area has a number of
HSC Prescribed Texts.
You will study one of these
texts.
You MUST
use your HSC Prescribed Text in your Area of Study responses.
You must collect related material of
your own choosing
that supports
·
your growing understanding of
Journeys;
·
your Area of Study Prescribed Text, and
·
your selections from the
Area of Study Stimulus Booklet.
Your Prescribed Text and the
Stimulus Booklet should be a guide to you in choosing materials that are
literary and have something of substance to say to their audience.
You MUST
also use two of the related materials you have selected in your Area of
Study responses.
If you do this, you will be
able to make connections between all your text in your responses and you will
make your response stronger.
Being able
to make connections between texts
means looking at:
·
what the texts say in common
·
what they differ on
·
how the composers have chosen
to express their meaning
·
what you think about what is
being said
will make a big and positive
difference to the quality of your response.
